We at the sunflower center for the arts believe we need a revolution—old school style. We want a return to ideas, and to a respect for the imagination and the power of creativity.

We call this InCommon. We believe that we have our community in common; we also believe we have in common the power to make it greater and greater. One way is through the arts. Local and regional artists will regale us with conversation, their reflections on their own creative processes and imaginings, as well as their views on the state of the arts in our area.

But they will also invigorate our own creativity, whatever form that might take, so that we are jazzed to appreciate, protect and ensure all imagination in our place.

With this as a start, we see the conversations delving into all aspects of the fine arts: painting, sculpture, dance, writing, music and film.

Most importantly, we know this will remind each of us of our own creative voices, so that they might sing.

Join the conversation.

More on the Drum Brothers
Drum Brothers present high energy performances that celebrate a diverse mix of world instruments and sounds: West African drums, Middle Eastern frame drums, Australian didgeridoo, close harmony vocals, acoustic guitar, flute, and original arrangements and compositions. For over a decade they have performed throughout the Northwest and in Canada at festivals,
performing arts series, conferences, colleges and universities, and private celebrations.

The comprised of Michael and Matthew Marsolek, Nathan Zavalney, and Lawrence Duncan.

Since the early 90s, Drum Brothers have been presenting classes and drum circles for all ages, celebrating the rhythms of life and the joy of community music-making. Over the years, they have brought World rhythm and drumming into schools and educational centers for children and adults, they have drummed with trouble youth, disabled people, bereaved children, and cancer survivors, and they have sparked many ongoing community rhythm circles in cities around the Northwest and in Canada.
