2) cultural programs - children's theater festivals, celebration of important dates, like the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Borodino (September 2012) and 50th anniversary of the Fist Manned flight to Space, and events - the day of the Russian language in the United Nations in June 2010;

200th anniversary of the Battle of Borodino

Two centuries have passed from the largest and bloodiest single-day action of the French invasion of Russia, but the memory of the Russian generals and of the soldiers’ bravery is still alive. And New York is not an exception.

Not-for-profit organization “Shostakovich Cultural Programs” together with the Sunflower Educational Center and Institute for the English-Russian Bilinguism are happy to announce and invite you and your friends to the musical and literary evening to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Borodino.

The Bust of Yuri Gagarin unveiled at the Cradle of Aviation Museum

Sunflower Educational Center in cooperation with Russian Center, Cradle of Aviation museum and Dialogue of Cultures - United World Foundation is honored to announce that today - June 30, 2012 the bust of Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, the first man in space, has been unveiled at Long Island's Cradle of Aviation Museum in Garden City, NY.

Cosmonaut Mikhail Tyurin - a 28-year veteran of the Soviet and Russian space programs - said the bust was more than just a likeness of the first man in space. It was a symbol of the new era of understanding between US and Russia, he said, as cited by Newsday.

Unveiling of the bust of Yuri Gagarin in the cradle of aviation museum

New York – June 30, 2012 – Yuri Gagarin’s bust opening ceremony in The Cradle of Aviation Museum(Garden City, Long Island, New York). On April 12, 1961, aboard the Vostok 3KA-3 (Vostok 1), Gagarin became both the first human to travel into space, and the first to orbit the earth. This day is the turning point in the world of science in general and space exploration in particular. It was the beginning of the era of fierce competition that transformed into the cooperation and partnership between the two spacefaring nations – USA and Russia.

The bust is a gift from Ruslan Bayramov, Russian businessman and philanthropist, the founder of “Dialogue of Cultures – United World” Fund (www.ethnomir.ru) to The Cradle of Aviation Museum. It will be installed in the space section of the museum and will be a great addition to the Sputnik-1 model – a gift from the Russian government.
