Unveiling of the bust of Yuri Gagarin in the cradle of aviation museum

New York – June 30, 2012 – Yuri Gagarin’s bust opening ceremony in The Cradle of Aviation Museum (Garden City, Long Island, New York). On April 12, 1961, aboard the Vostok 3KA-3 (Vostok 1), Gagarin became both the first human to travel into space, and the first to orbit the earth. This day is the turning point in the world of science in general and space exploration in particular. It was the beginning of the era of fierce competition that transformed into the cooperation and partnership between the two spacefaring nations – USA and Russia.

The bust is a gift from Ruslan Bayramov, Russian businessman and philanthropist, the founder of “Dialogue of Cultures – United World” Fund (www.ethnomir.ru) to The Cradle of Aviation Museum. It will be installed in the space section of the museum and will be a great addition to the Sputnik-1 model – a gift from the Russian government.
