We Grow and Develop. Celebrating our five-year anniversary at the new location.

Fall of 2007. The scenic Glen Head area hosts Long Island’s first and only Russian center – Educational and Cultural center "Sunflower." Within a year of hard work our center  proudly hosted the US first Russian Cabinet and Library of the Russkiy Mir Foundation, with a rich library (books, movies, CDs), computer facilities, teaching materials, allowing teaching Russian at the highest level.

Five years of interesting work cover projects in several areas:

1) educational pre K programs and Saturday Russian school;

2) cultural programs - children's theater festivals, celebration of important dates, like the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Borodino (September 2012) and 50th anniversary of the Fist Manned flight to Space, and events - the day of the Russian language in the United Nations in June 2010;

3) organization of conferences and forums on the problem of teaching Russian as a foreign language;

4) organization of visits of student delegations to New York;

5) grant programs - the project "Musical Grammar" (2010-2011), that has developed into a "The musical Methodology" in teaching Russian.

Today we celebrate our fifth anniversary at the new location - the center opened its doors in the Financial District of Manhattan - 111 John Street, Suite 2508. We were grateful and happy to see our colleagues and partners during the modest ceremony: representatives of the Consulate General of Russia in New York Lyudmila Pirozhnikova and Andrei Gromov; First Secretary of the Permanent Mission of Russia to the UN - Anton Uspenskiy, editor-in-chief of “Russian America” Arkadiy Mar, director of the Association of WWII Veterans in the U.S. Nadezhda Kurilovich, and others. We are starting a new project - Institute for Bilingual Research, aimed at in-depth study of teaching Russian in the bilingual environment.

Our Center is always open for cooperation, and we are glad to see you here. Please use the resources of the library - it's absolutely free. Learn Russian with us, prep yourself for tests (Prototype Russian AP, GRE, GMAT), join our cultural programs. Let's speak Russian together!
